I walk through the exact process I use to choose my size following the sewing guide, compare my measurements to the size chart, and make a clean and accurate hip adjustment directly on the pattern.
You’ll also see how I shift the darts, how much width I remove from each side seam, and why I make different choices for the lining and for the main skirt pieces.

Introduction / About the Design

The Modern Marquise Skirt is my modern take on classic elegance. With clean lines and light draping, it gives a flattering shape that highlights femininity and a delicate waistline.

I was inspired by vintage couture details but kept the design simple enough for everyday wear. The skirt includes three hem options — asymmetric, straight, and shorter — so you can choose between a more bold or a more classic look.

Depending on the fabric you pick — from structured wool suiting to cotton or even textured denim — the Modern Marquise Skirt can look very different, but it always works as a versatile piece that easily goes from day to evening.

1. Stitch a guiding thread along the hemline. In my video you will see it as a white thread with a dot in brackets. This step is very important, don’t skip it.

2. Mark the hem allowance with tailor’s chalk. Mine is 4 cm. For classic trousers it is always 4 cm.

3. Trim the excess fabric.
